I’m gonna try out a new segment here on akidnamedb. I’m calling it “The Go Back,” not to be confused with a throwback; because in my mind, a throwback is a look back at 10 plus years in music. “The Go Back” will consist of anything we may have forgotten, as well as music that was influential or significant, even for a brief, or possibly overplayed moment in time.
For the first installment of this session, I’d like to travel back to 2007, right around the time one of my favorite artists, Joe Budden was putting out the third project in his Mood Muzik series. The song “All Of Me” featuring his go-to crooner Emanny, always stuck out as my favorite song, as I’m sure it did for many of you. The sample of Willie Hutch’s “Mother,” which was notably found in the 70′s cult classic “The Mack,” was one of those joints everyone wanted to sample. No one really captured it’s level of dopeness, until Budden’s eight-minute-and-thirty-second-lyrical-monologue. Honestly, it was one of the first times I listened to a song that long since Thriller (the 14-minute video, not the song). So with out further words, I re-introduce to you:
